Uniform Multistate Jurisprudence Exam (UMPJE)

KANSAS TRANSITIONS TO THE UNIFORM MULTISTATE JURISPRUDENCE EXAM (UMPJE)

KANSAS BOARD OF PHARMACY WILL TRANSITION TO THE UNIFORM MULTISTATE JURISPRUDENCE EXAM FOR LICENSURE EFFECTIVE APRIL 1, 2026. Effective April 1, 2026, the Kansas Board of Pharmacy will begin offering both the Kansas MPJE and UMPJE as a condition for pharmacist licensure. The Kansas MPJE will no longer be offered or required as of April 1, 2027. For additional information regarding the new Uniform MPJE™ (UMPJE™), visit the Examination section of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) website.

New Graduates – As of April 1, 2026, candidates who are prospective graduates from a Kansas ACPE-accredited program and FPGEC certified pharmacists pursuing licensure in the jurisdiction of Kansas will be required to pass both the NAPLEX and the UMPJE or Kansas MPJE. The same exam requirements apply to all out of state candidates, but they can take the UMPJE beginning June 1, 2026.

License Transfer – As of April 1, 2026, licensed pharmacists seeking licensure in Kansas will be required to pass the UMPJE or MPJE and submit an Electronic Licensure Transfer Program® application.

Pre-UMPJE – NABP has launched the Pre-UMPJE™, a practice exam designed to help recent pharmacy school graduates, licensure transfer candidates, and foreign pharmacy candidates prepare for the UMPJE. The Pre-UMPJE has been launched ahead of the high-stakes exam to support licensure candidates in UMPJE early adopter jurisdictions. The Pre-UMPJE can be purchased in the Exam Services section of NABP e-Profile®. The practice exam features 40 questions covering topics detailed on the UMPJE Content Outline, offering candidates an opportunity to become familiar with the exam format, question style, and content areas that will be assessed on the exam. Like the existing Pre-MPJE®, a score report is available for download immediately after completing the practice exam. NABP also offers bulk voucher purchasing options for schools and colleges of pharmacy interested in providing the Pre-UMPJE to their students. This option allows institutions to support exam readiness while offering students a structured, cost-effective way to prepare for the UMPJE. More information available here.
